Ukrainian paralympic athlete sells medals to donate to Ukrainian army
CHERNIHIV, UKRAINE - JULY 8: A Ukrainian biathlete, who won a bronze medal at the Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022, sold his sentimentally priceless medal to donate to the Ukrainian army.Dmytro Suiarko achieved one of the most important achievements of his life by finishing third in the men's middle-distance vision impaired biathlon in China. However, he also experienced the biggest drama and disappointment of his life when he returned to his country after the games. The city of Chernihiv, where he lived and prepared for the games, was badly damaged during Russia's attacks on Ukraine.Horrified by what had happened in his city, Suiarko decided to volunteer to serve his country and then put all his medals on sale to support the army.He sold his Paralympic Winter Games medal for $5300 and donated it to the army.“You can see with your own eyes what happened after the attacks of the Russian invaders. After returning from the games, I volunteered because there is a very difficult situation in Ukraine. I started selling my medals because I wanted to help as much as I could. I wasn't very successful the first time, but the war continues. I would like to exhibit my remaining medals once again at the auction,” he said.
