Bipartisan Support For Unions At Amazon_clean
Union organization at Amazon is accomplishing something that hasn't happened in decades. The tech giant is inspiring bi-patrician support in Washington, DC. Republican Sen. Marco Rubio has sided with Amazon workers in Alabama who are in the midst of organizing their warehouse, lending bipartisan support behind the closely watched union vote.In an op-ed, Rubio asserted that Amazon has "waged war against working-class values" and is "looking to crush the union vote.""The days of conservatives being taken for granted by the business community are over," Rubio wrote. "Here's my standard: When the conflict is between working Americans and a company whose leadership has decided to wage a culture war against working-class values, the choice is easy — I support the workers."Last month, close to 6,000 workers at an Amazon Alabama warehouse began voting by mail on whether to unionize, kicking off the company's first major unionization effort since 2014. Last November, of their plans to hold a vote, workers at the Alabama facility notified the National Labor Relations Board last November of their plans.Ballots were sent out to employees at the beginning of February, and the NLRB's regional office must receive them by March 29. Counting will begin the following day.The endorsement from Rubio, a Florida Republican, signifies there is bipartisan backing behind the union campaign. Last week, a group of Democratic Congress members traveled to the Bessemer warehouse to support the union vote. President Joe Biden has also expressed solidarity with the Amazon workers, telling them to "make your voice heard."
