George C. Marshall’s Early Military Career: From VMI Cadet to Infantry Officer in the Philippines
United States - Circa 1958: Footage shows George C. Marshall beginning his military journey at the Virginia Military Institute in 1897, where he rose to cadet first captain and graduated with honors, earning a reputation for skill and knowledge that followed him throughout his career. Commissioned an infantry second lieutenant in 1901, he was first assigned to duty in the Philippines. Additional early postings took him to Oklahoma Territory, Texas, Massachusetts, and eventually to advanced training at the Fort Leavenworth Staff College.
