Killed Lebanese activist’s family says Salim was terrifying Hezbollah with his ideas

BEIRUT, LEBANON - FEBRUARY 07: Various Lebanese media outlets reported Thursday (Feb. 4) the death of prominent political activist Luqman Salim in Zahrani town, south of the country, hours after his disappearance.Salim, 58, was a prominent Shiite activist known for being a fierce critic of the Hezbollah paramilitary group which wields great influence in southern Lebanon. He was shot dead and found in his car on Thursday in south Lebanon – the first killing of a high-profile activist in years. He disappeared on Wednesday evening upon his return from visiting a friend in Zahrani. While investigations are still underway to find out the details of the killing of Salim, his sister and mother gave an exclusive interview on Sunday (Feb. 7).Rasha Salim, sister of the late Lebanese activist accused Hezbollah of assassinating her brother because "he was frightening them with his ideas affecting the world."Rasha said that her brother is a reader, thinker, and holder of a clear and transparent political stance that he used to speak out on television stations and in all languages, even those that oppose his opinion. It was not possible to obtain immediate comment from Hezbollah about what Rasha Salim al-Amir mentioned, but the party condemned, in a statement, the assassination of Salim, calling on the competent judicial and security agencies to "uncover and punish the perpetrators of the crime."The deceased activist was previously subjected to several "betrayal" campaigns by supporters of "Hezbollah" and its ally "Amal Movement", so that last year they entered his garden, leaving him a threatening message, waving bullets and a silencer. For her part, Luqman Salim’s mother, writer and researcher Salma Mershaq said she lost her friend, explaining that Salim was her friend in reading books, especially the old ones dating back to the nineteenth century.
