Surplus ‘ehomaki’ sushi rolls turned to pig fodder day after Setsubun
Video footage shows “ehomaki” sushi rolls and their ingredients among surplus food being processed into pig feed at Japan Food Ecology Center in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, in the early hours of Feb. 4. The popular sushi roll is meant for consumption on the Setsubun festival day on Feb. 3, and the government this year told the convenience store and other industries to cut down on unsold inventories being discarded.
