Video footage taken on July 18 at a demonstration event held in Tokyo shows robots developed by Toyota Motor Corp. for use during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Among them is the humanoid T-HR3, which is designed to remotely mimic the movements and gestures of athletes to allow them to shake hands, in one use, with groups of school-age fans. Also shown are the two official mascot robots of the games, Miraitowa and Someity, developed with multiple joints and capable of making various expressions with their eyes. Also shown off were the T-TR1 remotely operated communication robot, which functions as a self-propelled screen between operator and audience, and the FSR field support robot, which will follow grounds crews as they gather hammers, javelins, discs and other objects thrown during competition.
