Colorful floats paraded in Saga Prefecture festival

Video footage taken on Nov. 2, the first day of the Karatsu Kunchi festival held in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, shows teams of participants called “hikiko” pulling ornately decorated floats through the streets of the city. A total of 14 floats depicting mythical beasts, elaborate helmets and sea bream, among other creations, formed the illuminated parade. The three-day festival is recognized as an important intangible folk cultural property by the national government.
