Watchmakers Check Puerta del Sol's Clock Ahead of New Year's Eve

Jesús López Terradas has been in charge of the maintenance of the clock since 1996. The clock was designed and donated by Spanish watchmaker José RodrÃguez Losada in the 19th Century, manufactured in London, and installed in Madrid in 1866. According to the Spanish tradition, every New Year's Eve the clock marks 12 o'clock with twelve bell strokes while people gather at Puerta del Sol and eat one grape on every stroke to celebrate the arrival of the new year.
