Alejandro González Iñárritu on Dedicating His Films to Family Members

Alejandro Inarritu: Well I always dedicate, have dedicated my films to family members. The first, Amores Perros, was dedicated to Luciano. (camera zooms out to two-shot of Brad and Alejandro) It’s a son that my wife and I lost in ’96 and that’s why I dedicated that. The second one I dedicated my wife, 21 Grams which was a very personal subject matter, that’s why I did that film and I dedicated it to Maria Eladia, my wife. And the third one, which is Babel, which I try to be the most hopeful of the three of them, I owe that film to my kids, the ones that are alive which is Maria Eladia, Aliceo (could not verify second name) and I dedicate that film to them because they really helped my wife and I go through that period. And they, as I mentioned, they are the brighter lights in my life, dark as night, anytime, and I owe them that, that. And I think for me it’s important to dedicate such an intense and painful process for me at least, I don’t enjoy making films, I'm a little bit like a masochist. So for me it’s so painful and it takes me so much that I better have somebody in mind that is very important that I can dedicate all that work for.
