The White-headed Manakin is a passerine bird of the Pipridae family.It is also known as the White-headed Manakin, Blue-headed Manakin, White-headed Manakin, Irapuru, Atangará, Tangará, and White-crowned Dancer.Its scientific name means: from the Greek di = two, two, double; and xiphias, xiphos = swords, sword; and from the Greek pipra, piprö, piprös and piprön = small bird mentioned by Aristotle and other authors, but which was never properly identified and erroneously associated with the woodpecker. ⇒ Small bird with two swords.It measures about 10 cm in length. The male is black with the upper part of the head white and the female is olive-green, with the top and sides of the head grayish. The iris is red in both sexes.
