ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE - FEB. 13, 2026: A woman who choked on food while eating at a restaurant at Istanbul Airport in Türkiye was saved after the branch manager performed the Heimlich maneuver on Friday, Feb. 13.The incident occurred at a restaurant in the Domestic Departures Terminal when the woman began coughing and struggling to breathe after food became lodged in her airway.Beytullah Bozkurt, the restaurant’s branch manager, intervened and successfully dislodged the piece of food using the Heimlich maneuver.Speaking to Anadolu, Bozkurt said the incident took place late at night while he was checking product expiration dates at the cashier section.“I noticed the lady coughing and asked if she was okay. She couldn’t respond. I went inside to get her some water. When I returned, she had stood up and pointed to her back. At that moment, I realized nothing but the Heimlich maneuver would save her. You should have seen the happiness in her eyes.
