In 2025, our archivists brought hundreds of thousands of newly digitized photos and videos to our site—additions that will remain relevant for generations to come, including the 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square, the U.S. Voters Rights movement from 1965, generation‑defining sporting and musical events, and much more.
The GettyImages archive, one of the world's largest, helped customers across media and industries, make sense of the present and consider the future through ourpast.

In 2026, We Honor 90 Years of the BettmannArchive
When Otto Bettmann arrived in New York with two steamer trunks full of prints and used them a year later to found the Bettmann Archive in 1936, he couldn't have known it would grow to become one of the world’s most significant collections of 20th‑century photography. From its early days in Berlin to its present home under GettyImages’ care, the Archive—with its 11 million images—stands as a testament to the human experience and importance of preserving our collective stories. Today, our dedicated archivists continue to safeguard, digitize, and share this extraordinary collection, ensuring that decades of visual history remain protected, accessible, and relevant for futuregenerations.
